As a collaboration between HAW Hamburg and the Berlin Philharmonic, we adapted Richard Strauss‘ opera „The Knight of the Rose“ as a Graphic Novel. Unfortunately never published.
The idea was for every participant to take one character and adapted the story from that character’s point of view. Content and technique was up to us. The only condition was to not invent additional text. To cut out stuff was allowed, even if it changed the content.

The character I chose was the Marschallin, a character struggling with the transience of her own existence and the preservation of her personal dignity. (And I thought a woman’s morning routine has a lot to do with that…)

Durch die Zusammenarbeit von HAW Hamburg und Berliner Philharmonie ist Anfang 2015 die Comic-Adaption von Richard Strauss‘ Oper „Der Rosenkavalier“ entstanden. Leider nie veröffentlicht.
Das Konzept war, dass jede Teilnehmer*in sich einen Charakter aussucht und die Geschichte aus deren Sicht erzählt. Inhalt und Umsetzung waren frei, die einzige Bedingung war, das kein Text hinzugefügt werden darf. Kürzen war allerdings erlaubt, auch radikales, sinnveränderndes Kürzen.

Meine Figur war die Marschallin, welche an verschiedenen Fronten zu kämpfen hat, u.a. mit der eigenen Vergänglichkeit und dem Bewahren der persönlichen Würde. (Die Morgenroutine einer Frau hat damit einiges zu tun, wie ich finde…)
